This interactive case-based session will explore contemporary management of rectal cancer, highlighting approaches to early-stage and locally advanced disease, organ preservation strategies, the potential of integrating ctDNA into clinical decision-making, and treatment considerations for patients with stage IV disease.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

Review optimal treatment approaches for early-stage rectal cancer, focusing on accurate staging, the role of multidisciplinary care, local excision and total mesorectal excision.
Discuss current strategies for neoadjuvant therapy and organ preservation for locally advanced rectal cancer.
Summarize management options for patients with stage IV rectal cancer, including resection of the primary, metastasectomy, and the role of systemic and liver-directed therapies within a multidisciplinary framework.
Evaluate the role of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in postoperative surveillance and treatment decision-making for patients with rectal cancer.
