This presentation will discuss the many caveats and potential poor outcomes that make colectomy for chronic constipation a decision that must be weighed very carefully. The audience will learn the psychosocial factors that influence outcomes in patients with chronic constipation undergoing surgery and use this knowledge to understand the few patients who may more likely benefit from surgical treatment of chronic constipation.
