To achieve certification by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery (ABCRS), candidates must pass both a Written (Part I) and Oral Examination (Part II). The Oral Exam evaluates clinical experience, problem-solving, surgical judgment, and knowledge of current literature.
This workshop is designed to prepare candidates for the Oral Exam while also addressing challenges faced by fellows and recent graduates as they begin practice.
The session includes an overview of the mock oral exam structure, followed by two concurrent tracks:
Mock Oral Examination: Small-group format replicating the ABCRS Oral Exam, with examiners posing common clinical scenarios, direct questioning, and performance critiques. Participants observe and learn from peers while receiving feedback from board-certified faculty.
Mini-Symposium: Presentations and panel discussions on board review, transition to practice, academic development, career pathways, and financial planning—tailored to fellows and new attendings preparing for certification and early practice.
