After 29 years of practice, I still look forward to coming to the hospital every day. It is extremely rewarding to work with a spectacular team of people, helping patients with complex problems affecting their gastrointestinal tract. I benefited from the mentorship of experienced physicians and nurses during my career and believe we should “pay it forward” which drives my commitment to educating the next generation. From a research perspective, we have tried to advance our understanding of diseases and how best to treat them and have been increasingly focused on measuring outcomes truly important to patients. I appreciate that my colleagues have trusted me to serve in a variety of leadership roles for entities that represent our specialty and have enjoyed the camaraderie of those who share this commitment. Other than family and my profession, my passion is underwater photography.
