Pasithorn Amy Suwanabol, MD, MS, FACS, FASCRS, is the Maud T. Lane Research Professor and Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Michigan. She earned her medical degree and completed her General Surgery residency at the University of Wisconsin, followed by a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Massachusetts–Memorial Hospital Medical Center. In 2015, she joined the faculty at the University of Michigan. Dr. Suwanabol’s research focuses on optimizing the delivery of palliative care and improving the quality of life of surgical patients. She has received funding from the National Institute on Aging (R03) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (K08), and she is currently Co-Principal Investigator on a National Cancer Institute (R01/R37) project focused on survivorship among young adults with colorectal cancer. She has authored more than 100 scientific publications and 10 book chapters, and serves as Associate Editor for Annals of Surgery Open, Surgery, and the European Journal of Surgical Oncology. She is also an Examiner and Consultant for the American Board of Surgery and Question Writer for the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery.
Above all, Dr. Suwanabol values her dual roles as a surgeon at the Ann Arbor Veterans Affairs Healthcare System, caring for our nation’s veterans, and as Co-Director of the Center for Healthcare Outcomes and Policy (CHOP), where she mentors and trains the next generation of physician-scientists.
