Steven Schechter, MD, is a colon and rectal surgeon who after 10 years has recently stepped down from being the Interim Chief of the Division Of Colorectal Surgery at the Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University. He is a Professor of Surgery, Education Track and works in an active division with 6 colorectal surgeons who train 2 colorectal fellows a year. He has been an active member of the New England Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons (NESCRS) and served as the President from 2019-2022. Dr. Schechter is an active member of the ASCRS and has served on a number of committees and chaired the Regional Society Committee (2017-2019). Dr. Schechter has expertise in the treatment of anorectal disease like hemorrhoids, fissures, fistulas, condyloma, & anal dysplasia. His clinical interest and research is in surgical correction of fecal incontinence, colorectal & anal cancer, and inflammatory bowel disease. He performs laparoscopic and open colorectal surgery. He currently has focused his research on patients with HIV and anal dysplasia.
