Joga Ivatury, M.D., MHA, is an associate professor of surgery Dell Medical School and the inaugural chief of colon and rectal surgery at UT Health Austin. He is an experienced colon and rectal surgeon in advanced techniques in the treatment of colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and complex anorectal diseases. Ivatury’s top-level research goal is to optimize colon and rectal cancer care while minimizing morbidity and maximizing quality of life. He engages in quantitative and qualitative research efforts on patient reported outcomes, shared decision making and patient education. He has developed EMR-integrated patient reported outcomes programs, patient education materials for rectal cancer (Rectal Cancer Education Project) and practice protocols to meet each unique patients’ needs. He is also especially interested in survivorship after rectal cancer treatment, ostomy care delivery, and artificial intelligence in colon and rectal surgery.
