As a colorectal surgeon and academic faculty member at Seoul National University Hospital, my professional journey has centered on advancing the understanding and treatment of colorectal diseases through an integration of clinical excellence, translational research, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Since earning my M.D. from Seoul National University College of Medicine in 2001, followed by master’s and doctoral degrees in physiology and surgery, I have developed both the clinical expertise and scientific foundation necessary to bridge the gap between bench and bedside.
Following my surgical residency and fellowship training at Seoul National University Hospital, I expanded my academic horizon as a visiting scholar at the University of Nevada, Reno, where I investigated the electrophysiological mechanisms of intestinal motility. This international experience shaped my ongoing interest in gastrointestinal neuromuscular physiology and the functional recovery of bowel motility after surgery.
My research has spanned the fields of colorectal cancer, bowel motility, surgical outcomes, patient-reported quality of life, and minimally invasive surgery including laparoscopic and robotic procedures. I have published more than 130 peer-reviewed papers in leading international journals including The British Journal of Surgery, Annals of Surgery, World Journal of Gastroenterology, Scientific Reports, and British Journal of Cancer.
Looking forward, my primary academic goal is to advance patient-tailored surgical and functional restoration strategies through integrative research that combines surgical innovation, physiology, and digital analytics. I seek to build collaborative frameworks that leverage the advancement of minimally invasive surgery, biophysical modeling, and real-world clinical data to predict and optimize long-term outcomes in colorectal surgery.
Through continuous mentorship, clinical practice, and international collaboration, I aspire to contribute to the global standardization of colorectal surgical care and to foster the next generation of surgeon-scientists in Korea and beyond.
