My name is Gianina C. Hernandez-Marquez, MD and I am currently on my second year as T32-NIH Postgraduate Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham Alabama, Department of Surgery, Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery. I am originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico and I have been leading multiple projects during these two years involving the implementation of a pilot surgical navigation intervention, understanding barriers to care and their impact on surgical outcomes, as well as building education programs for the IBD population. I am very passionate about addressing health differences and improving access to care. I really enjoy playing sudoku, trying new coffee shops, having a good glass of Rioja, and traveling to new places!
