Iran Alonso, MD, is an aspiring general surgeon with a focused interest in colorectal surgery and minimally invasive surgical research. She serves as a Clinical Research Coordinator at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, where she collaborates on projects in inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal surgery, and surgical quality improvement. Iran Alonso earned her medical degree from Universidad Autónoma de Baja California and has completed dedicated clinical and research training in the United States.
Her research focuses on postoperative outcomes, disruptive surgical bleeding, and patient-reported outcomes in colorectal surgery. She is actively involved in multiple ongoing projects, including analyses using national datasets and prospective clinical studies. Prior to her current role, she gained early clinical experience as a paramedic, which contributed to her foundation in acute patient care and solidified her interest in surgical practice.
She plans to pursue residency training in general surgery followed by fellowship training in colorectal surgery, with a long-term goal of advancing patient-centered outcomes and contributing to innovation in minimally invasive surgery within academic medicine.
