Dr. Young Il Kim is a board-certified colorectal surgeon and faculty member in the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery at Asan Medical Center, University of Ulsan College of Medicine in Seoul, Korea. His primary academic interest is colorectal cancer, spanning both clinical and translational research. He recently returned from a sabbatical research fellowship at the Center for Systems Biology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, where he spent one year focusing on translational oncology.
Dr. Kim has contributed to studies involving liquid biopsy, including work on small extracellular vesicles as potential biomarkers in colorectal cancer. His research portfolio also includes collaborative projects in digital healthcare, such as smartphone-based interventions and wearable-monitoring approaches aimed at improving patient outcomes.
Clinically, Dr. Kim specializes in minimally invasive colorectal surgery, advanced rectal cancer management, and multidisciplinary oncologic care. He is an active member of the Korean Society of Coloproctology and regularly participates as a reviewer, presenter, and invited speaker at national and international scientific meetings.
Dr. Kim is committed to integrating surgical expertise with emerging scientific and technological advances to improve precision and patient-centered care in colorectal cancer.
