Dr. Gwyn Celo is a Filipino general surgeon with advanced training in colorectal surgery. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Medicine degrees at West Visayas State University, graduating cum laude and as class valedictorian in 2015. In 2016, he ranked 9th in the Philippine Physician Licensure Examination.
Dr. Celo completed his General Surgery residency at West Visayas State University Medical Center, where he developed a strong interest in colorectal and oncologic surgery. He subsequently pursued subspecialty training in Colorectal Surgery at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), the national university hospital of the Philippines, where he was exposed to complex colorectal diseases and multidisciplinary cancer care.
His clinical interests include advanced colorectal cancer surgery, minimally invasive colorectal procedures, transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME), and enhanced recovery protocols in colorectal surgery. He has also been actively involved in academic research, with projects focusing on neoadjuvant chemotherapy for T4 colon cancer, outcomes of emergency colorectal surgery, and innovative techniques for colorectal tumor localization.
Dr. Celo has presented his work at national and international scientific meetings, including the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS). His research and clinical work aim to contribute to improved surgical care and outcomes for patients with colorectal diseases.
He is currently practicing as a general surgeon in Iloilo, Philippines, where he continues to provide surgical care while remaining engaged in research and academic collaborations.
