Matas Jakubauskas, MD, PhD, is an international colorectal surgery fellow from Lithuania, currently training at the Mayo Clinic in the United States. He is an abdominal surgeon at Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos and a junior researcher at Vilnius University. Dr. Jakubauskas completed his PhD at the Medical University of Graz, focusing on the role of probiotics in colorectal cancer liver metastases.
His clinical and academic work centers on colorectal surgery, with a strong emphasis on translational research involving gut microbiota, bile acids, and early colorectal carcinogenesis. He has led and contributed to multiple international collaborative studies, including EuroSurg projects, and is the principal investigator of a nationally funded postdoctoral project on microbiota and bile acids in cancer progression
