My name is Athena Bain; I am a third-year General Surgery resident at Tulane University School of Medicine. My passion for surgery has been shaped by caring for patients across vastly different healthcare environments. Having worked in resource-limited communities throughout the Caribbean, New England and now in New Orleans, I have developed a deep commitment to improving access to high-quality surgical care for underserved and marginalized populations.
Driven by a belief that healthcare equity begins with advocacy, mentorship, and human connection, I am passionate about supporting the next generation of physicians and expanding opportunities for those historically underrepresented in medicine. My interests in mentorship, global surgery, and quality improvement reflect a broader mission to help build healthcare systems that are more accessible, compassionate, and responsive to the communities we serve.
At the core of my work is the conviction that excellent surgical care should not be defined by geography, resources, or circumstance, but should be attainable for every patient.
