Dr. Alex Elias, MD, FASCRS is the Director of Colon & Rectal Surgery at Kern Medical and is the sole board certified female colorectal surgeon in Bakersfield, CA, where she also serves as the Associate Program Director, Director of Research, Director of Robotic Surgical Education, and Director of Wellbeing for the general surgery residency program.

Dr. Elias was born in Atlanta, GA and is a graduate of University of California Santa Barbara with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. After teaching 9th grade science at Oakland High School with Teach for America, she obtained her medical degree at University of California Davis. Her general surgery residency was at the Mayo Clinic Florida, where she was the chief resident. She completed her training with a colon and rectal surgery fellowship at Advent Health Orlando.

When Dr. Elias isn’t operating or playing with her two sons, you can find her working out, in the water, or at a reggae concert.
