Varnica Bajaj, MD, is a General Surgery resident at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering, summa cum laude, from Boston University, followed by her Doctor of Medicine from Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Bajaj’s academic and clinical interests span surgical oncology, vascular surgery, and global surgery, with a particular focus on health equity, surgical access, and outcomes research.
Her research experience includes work in surgical oncology, vascular surgery, and global health, with ongoing projects addressing disparities in cancer care, peripheral artery disease physiology, and changes in surgical practice patterns. She has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in surgical oncology, global surgery, and immunology and has presented her work at national and international surgical meetings. Dr. Bajaj has been recognized with multiple honors, including the Best Poster Presentation Award at the American College of Surgeons Nebraska Annual Meeting.
In addition to her academic work, Dr. Bajaj has held numerous leadership roles in surgical education, mentorship, and advocacy, including involvement with the Association of Women Surgeons and the Global Surgery Student Alliance. She is committed to advancing equitable surgical care through research, education, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
