Symptomatic hemorrhoids are the most encountered benign anorectal pathology and have significant quality-of-life impacts for patients, as well as substantial costs with nearly a billion dollars in claims annually (Yang, 2019). Few population-level studies exist to describe procedural utilization and complications outside of a trial setting. This study uses commercial claims data to describe hemorrhoidal procedure utilization, recurrence, pain management practices, and complications.
