Tumor boards are critical for multidisciplinary decision-making, yet certain complex or controversial cases often extend discussion far beyond the scheduled time. This symposium will highlight real-world colorectal cancer cases that challenge consensus, expose gaps in evidence, or stir debate across specialties. Through interactive case presentations and moderated discussion, faculty will explore management dilemmas involving neoadjuvant therapy, organ preservation, oligometastatic disease, and more. Attendees will gain insight into how expert teams approach nuance, ambiguity, and disagreement while striving for patient-centered, guideline-concordant care.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Analyze the clinical and ethical complexities that contribute to extended tumor board discussions in colorectal cancer care.
Evaluate controversial management strategies in challenging rectal and colon cancer cases, including those involving borderline resectability, complete clinical response, and patient refusal of standard treatment.
Integrate emerging tools and therapies—such as circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), immunotherapy, and novel biomarkers—into the evaluation and management of challenging colorectal cancer cases.
