Dr. Donald B.Colvin MD FACS FASCRS is the solo founder of Fairfax Colon and Rectal Surgery, PC in 1984. The practice has grown to a ten surgeon group with midlevel providers, four offices, and a two OR room outpatient AAAHC certified surgery center in Northern Virginia. The practice covers four hospitals in Northern Virginia the largest being a 1000 bed teaching hospital in Fairfax, Virginia. The practice participates in the teaching of surgical residents from the INOVA general surgery residency program which has seven residents at each level, and seven residents on research rotations as well medical students from the University of Virginia and other visiting medical students. Dr. Colvin has been section chief of colon and rectal surgery for the INOVA hospital system and has served on many hospital committees dealing with quality and operational processes, and he has served on many ASCARS committees. He is a founding member of the Chesapeake Regional Colon and Rectal Society and was President of the American College of Surgeons Washington Metropolitan Surgical Sociiety. He has received numerous teaching awards and has been given the "Service to the Profession Award" by the Virginia Medical Society. He has recently retired after 41 years of colon and rectal surgical practice in Northern Virginia. His curreent interests are in Complexity Science and Dynamical Systems of Social Policy. He is currently chair of the Healthcare Economics Committee for ASCRS. The practice has remained private.
