Sara W. Mayo, MD, MS, FACS, FASCRS Division Chief of Colorectal Surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center; Dartmouth, Geisel School of Medicine with over 20 years of clinical colon and rectal surgical experience. She received her medical degree (magna cum laude) from the Boston University School of Medicine, General Surgery Maine Medical Center followed by a Fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Minnesota Medical School. She is a graduate of the Harvard Medical School Surgical Leadership Program 2022. As a double-boarded, specialty-surgeon her clinical practice has focused on the complete care of complex colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel patients including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. She has experience at national, state, and local level in leadership, education, best-practice guidelines development. As the physician champion of a state-wide task force and best practice series, dedicated to raising visibility of colon cancer screening, she successfully led the State to achieve national top performer status. She has over 20 years of Commission on Cancer participation, dedicated to participation of multidisciplinary clinical trials and ongoing quality improvement of cancer care. She has championed high standards and communication skills building a platform for patient centered care. She has consistently been named Top Doctor for more than 15 years, and recognized as an honored caregiver for compassionate exemplary dedication to her patients. As a mentor, she has served at national, regional, and local level, serving as role-model for surgeons, residents, and medical students. She has a diverse, communication experience with strong interpersonal organization skill set. She understands the surgeon-scientists and the patients perspective.
