Brian R. Kann, MD is the Chairman of the Department of Colon and Rectal Surgery at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, LA. He received his medical degree from Hahnemann University (now Drexel University College of Medicine) in Philadelphia, PA, following which he completed his general surgery residency at UMDNJ/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School/Cooper University Hospital in Camden, NJ. He then completed his residency in colon and rectal surgery at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, LA. Following his training, he returned to Cooper University Hospital where he served as Program Director of the General Surgery Residency Program for several years before transitioning to the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, where he was Program Director for the Colon & Rectal Surgery Residency Program and Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. In 2015, he returned to New Orleans to join the Department of Colon & Rectal Surgery at Ochsner Medical Center. He assumed the role of Department Chair in 2023, and served as the Program Director for the Colon and Rectal Surgery Residency Program from 2020-2025. He also serves as Surgical Director for the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program at Ochsner. Dr. Kann served as the program chair for the 2019 ASCRS Annual Scientific Meeting in Cleveland. He is currently a Member-at-Large on the Executive Council of ASCRS as well as a Senior Examiner for the American Board of Colon & Rectal Surgery.
