Dr. Omar Ramos-Mas is currently a third year General Surgery resident at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. He earned his medical degree from the Universidad Central del Caribe in Puerto Rico, where he developed an early interest in General Surgery and outcomes research. His clinical interests include colorectal surgery, management of complex postoperative complications and chronic pain, and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Throughout residency, Dr. Ramos has been actively involved in research focused on surgical quality improvement and patient-centered outcomes in surgical postoperative care. He has presented his work at regional and national surgical meetings.
Dr. Ramos is committed to advancing evidence-based surgical practice and improving perioperative care. He plans to pursue fellowship training in colorectal surgery with a focus on complex oncologic resection and complication management.
Outside of clinical practice, he is passionate about surgical education and mentorship of medical students pursuing careers in surgery. This has led him to win resident teaching awards throughout his training experience.
