Dr. Ahmed Allawi, MD, MBChB, FACS
Assistant Professor of Surgery | Colorectal Surgeon | Robotic Surgery Specialist
Dr. Ahmed Allawi is a highly accomplished colorectal surgeon and academic leader with a distinguished career spanning advanced surgical practice, education, and innovation. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Central Florida, where he is dedicated to advancing minimally invasive and robotic surgical techniques.
Dr. Allawi earned his MBChB and MD degrees and holds board certification in General Surgery from the Arab Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS-GS) in Baghdad, Iraq. His early career included three years as a Consultant Surgeon at Al-Kindi Hospital, where he also served as Director of the Surgical Emergency Unit, managing critical surgical care and emergency operations.
After relocating to the United States, Dr. Allawi completed his General Surgery Residency at the University Hospital of South Carolina, followed by a prestigious accredited fellowship in Colorectal Surgery at Mayo Clinic, Massachusetts. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), underscoring his commitment to surgical excellence.
For the past five years, Dr. Allawi has focused extensively on robotic surgery, integrating cutting-edge technology into colorectal procedures to enhance precision and patient outcomes. Over the last two years, he has developed a special interest in Single-Port (SP) robotic surgery, positioning himself at the forefront of this emerging field and contributing to its advancement through clinical practice and academic engagement.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Allawi enjoys a fulfilling personal life with his wife and three children. His interests include reading, history, traveling, nature excursions, carpentry, jet-skiing, and fine dining, reflecting his appreciation for both intellectual and recreational pursuits.
