Gustavo Raziel Parra Vitela, MD, Research Fellow, University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). Gustavo completed medical school in Mexico and is pursuing U.S. general surgery training. At UIC, he works with the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery on projects that study treatment patterns, postoperative outcomes, and disparities in colorectal cancer and benign colorectal disease. He is also involved in clinical research in anorectal conditions, with a focus on practical perioperative strategies that reduce complications and improve patient care. Gustavo’s goal is to build a career that combines rigorous clinical training with clinically actionable research, translating data into decisions that improve surgical quality and patient-centered outcomes.
