Dr. Kelly Finan is a board-certified colorectal surgeon in Baton Rouge Louisiana. Dr. Finan received her Bachelor of Science degree in zoology from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She then matriculated to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine receiving her Doctorate of Medicine
in 2002. Dr. Finan continued her training completing a general surgery residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she also received her Master of Science in Public Health in Epidemiology. While at UAB she participated in clinical outcomes research focusing on population health with a particular interest in ventral hernia outcomes in the VA Hospital System.
After finding her calling in complex abdominal surgery, Dr. Finan finished her training at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri where she fulfilled a colorectal surgery fellowship. Upon graduation, she moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana joining the Our Lady of the Lake Physician Group in Colorectal Surgery in 2009.
Her true passion and calling into colorectal surgery was to focus on prevention and improved outcomes for colorectal cancer. This lead her to become the director of the rectal cancer multidisciplinary team at Our Lady of the Lake culminating in achieving the NAPRC accredidation in 2019 and 2023.
She is involved both locally and nationally in advocating for colorectal cancer. She has served on the ASCRS Rectal Cancer Committee and contributor to the maintenance of certification for the American Board of Colorectal Surgery. Dr. Finan is now currently the Vice Chair of ASCRS Cancer Committee. She sits on the medical advisory board for the Colon Cancer Alliance. She has served on Louisiana Colorectal Cancer Round Table advocating for education and access to care to improve colorectal cancer screening rates and outcomes in our state of Louisiana. She will be president of the Piedmont Colorectal Society in 2026.
