Patients with locally advanced or recurrent rectal cancer may require surgery outside of the TME plane. These operations often require specialized teams of surgeons and are sometimes best performed in referral centers. Recognizing and properly working up these cases is essential for achieving the best outcomes. This panel brings together speakers from some of the world's top centers for pelvic exenteration surgery to discuss strategies for achieving negative margins in cases appropriately selected for radical resection. Evolving exenteration techniques will be discussed, including minimally invasive surgery and multiple approaches to tumors with pelvic bone involvement.
