Dr. Jitesh Patel is a Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. He completed his General Surgery residency training at Allegheny General Hospital and then Colon and Rectal Surgery at Wash U/Barnes Jewish Hospital in 2011. Dr. Patel subsequently received his MBA from the University of Kentucky Gatton College of Business and Economics.
He specializes in the management of complex inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer, re-operative pelvic surgery and complicated diverticular disease. His research focuses on quality and cost of care, healthcare disparities, and physician burnout. Dr. Patel serves as the Division Chief and the Program Director for the Colon and Rectal Surgery residency program at the University of Kentucky.
Dr. Patel is an active member of several national societies including the Program Committee for the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery (ASCRS), Colorectal Disease Site Work Group (DSWG) for the SSO, the Executive Council for the Association of Program Directors for Colon and Rectal Surgery (APDCRS) and is the ASCRS representative for the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC) accreditation committee. He is also a member of the Society of University Surgeons and the ACS Academy of Master Surgeon Educators.
