For patients with locally-advanced or recurrent rectal cancer who require surgery outside of the TME plane, treatment is highly individualized. Resections are tailored to the specific anatomy of neoplastic involvement, and neoadjuvant therapy, intraoperative radiation, and reconstruction are selectively utilized. This symposium will consist of real case presentations, and our panel of experienced pelvic exenteration surgeons will share their insights and opinions on surgical and non-surgical management. Concepts to be emphasized will include contraindications to pelvic exenteration, plastic surgery flap reconstruction, intraoperative radiation therapy, and palliative pelvic exenteration.
