Joshua Bleier MD, FACS, FASCRS is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. He is the Section Chief of Colorectal Surgery at Pennsylvania Hospital and the Program Director of the Colorectal Fellowship. He is the Chair of Department of Surgery and on the Board of Directors for the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. He is Vice-President of APDCRS, a Member-at-Large on the ASCRS Executive Council and member of the ACGME Review Committee for Colorectal Fellowships. He is an Associate Editor of the Diseases of the Colon and Rectum and Section Editor for Social Media and Readership Engagement. Josh received his undergraduate degree (BA) at Penn (1996), and his MD and Penn (2000). He did his General Surgery Residency at Cornell, and his Colorectal Fellowship at the University of Minnesota. He joined the Penn faculty in 2008 and has been there ever since.
He has held several educational and administrative positions at Penn Medicine. He served as the President of the Medical Executive Committee and Chair of CEQI at Pennsylvania Hospital. He was promoted to Full Professor in July 2019, and was elected to the Academy of Master Clinicians in December 2020.
Nationally, he has been involved in the American Society of Colorectal Surgery, having been a member of multiple committees including Social Media, and Clinical Practice Guidelines. He served as Chair of the CREST Committee (Online Educational Modules) and was Program Co-Chair of the National Meeting in 2016, and served as President of the Pennsylvania Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
