Emanuela Silva Alvarenga, MD, earned her medical degree in Brazil and is board-certified in general and colorectal surgery in both Brazil and the United States. She completed her General Surgery residency through Florida State University College of Medicine, followed by an ACGME-accredited Colorectal Surgery Fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Florida. She is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery.
Dr. Alvarenga is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine at Prisma Health in Columbia, South Carolina.
She specializes in minimally invasive and robotic colorectal surgery. Her clinical and academic work focuses on pelvic floor disorders. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and is an active contributor to national and international surgical meetings. Dr. Alvarenga is a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and serves on its Steering Committee for Pelvic Floor Dysfunctions, as well as on the SAGES Continued Education Committee.
